Equilibrium’s Controlled Environment Foods (CEF) team manages more than $1.4B in institutional capital as the largest dedicated controlled environment agriculture platform in North America. The CEF platform employs a flexible, hybrid investment structure to meet the needs of today’s innovative and leading agricultural companies, providing both corporate equity and off-balance sheet financing (sale-leaseback, debt, etc.) for large-scale controlled environment agriculture facilities. These investments support production of year-round fresh produce and foods with a focus on sustainable practices, food safety, and predictable supply.

The Opportunity: CEF Senior Associate

The CEF team is looking to hire a Senior Associate to help the team continue to deploy capital into the controlled environment foods space. The CEF Senior Associate will be integral to value creation and will help evaluate, execute, and manage potential and existing investments. Responsibilities include financial analysis, investment underwriting, portfolio and asset management, investor reporting, capital raising, and general assistance with fund management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with senior investment and technical team members to coordinate the investment underwriting, due diligence, and deal execution process, which includes financial modeling, drafting & presenting investment memos, conducting research, coordinating consultants & transaction counsel, and reviewing data rooms & legal documents.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight and asset management of existing portfolio investments, including monitoring ongoing performance relative to plan/underwriting, debt and capital structure optimizations, reviewing incremental investments, and ensuring covenant/administrative compliance.
  • Manage and expand existing business relationships within the CEF industry, including with lenders, sponsors, and industry counterparties.
  • Identify and source potential opportunities for new investments.
  • Support the Investor Relations team with the preparation of quarterly & annual materials, including individual asset updates, fund level performance analysis, and annual presentations; participate in investor meetings, events, and site visits/tours as needed.
  • Support the raising of additional capital, including the preparation of offering documents, due diligence inquiries, and meetings with potential investors.
  • Oversee and direct the work of junior team members on relevant investments or asset management functions, providing quality control of their work and effective feedback.
  • Minimum of three years of investment experience, including experience with all aspects of transaction structuring and execution. Real estate, private equity, or agribusiness experience preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of financial modeling experience or the ability to demonstrate modeling proficiency at this level.
  • Experience with standard investment legal documentation, construction and EPC contracts, and lease agreements.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally working in a small team environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree; preferred Master’s degree in finance, business or equivalent major.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment 3 days in the office.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as needed.
  • Salary range is $160,000 - $190,000.
  • Compensation includes an additional performance-based bonus and the opportunity to participate in the CEF team’s carried interest pool.

 Qualifications:

 Compensation & Benefits: 

  • Salary range is $160,000 - $190,000.
